A Scene From A Gallery

Michael Lees Photography: Wonderful Thailand &emdash; A Scene From A Gallery

Three women captivated by their mobile phones as others enjoy the artwork around them.

Culture is ever changing. Today, the way most people enjoy art is via their mobile phones. Why take the time to visit a gallery when you can just look at the artwork on your phone?  We are all guilty of it. These small pocket sized computers just make everything so accessible, but this accessibility comes at a cost. We live in the either. A place of unreality, where nothing is visceral. Artwork takes on a throw-away nature. We look but don't see.

I believe that art needs to be experienced. You need to stand before it, to really enjoy it. The screen on a phone just doesn't cut it. Texture, tone and size vanish in the pixels. There is just something magical about seeing an artwork in the metaphorical flesh. A magic that seems to be lost on these three women.
